Another micra another catastrophic, MOT failing rust issue. I had a few bubbles so I went to scrape the underseal to treat what I thought was surface rust and recoat it. But the metal pretty much just dropped out and it now has 3 sizable holes. My dad has a budget of about zero to fix it and I’m of the opinion patching isn’t really an option and it needs a whole new sill panel. The metal is so fragile surrounding the holes theres not really anything to weld a patch too. Fun.

The Micras really hate you, don’t they?

I’m going to order a batch of ‘I survived the tinworm’ stickers for all of our cars. Obviously we need to get them to that stage first, but of 8 vehicles between us there are only two currently rust free(!)

Fill with expandable foam. Trim smooth. Hit with rubberized undercoating spray. Then get it good and dirty and hope they don’t notice during the inspection.
Not sure what the book value is, but it’s probably not worth fixing properly.

They’ll notice I reckon and I want the car to be somewhat safe it gets used daily.

I guess they hate you for driving their better looking French sister. Remind me to never go near a micra, will you?

I will. They’re super reliable hence why we have one, the rust is just ridiculous though.

If all you want is the hole filled, just fiberglass it and spray bomb. Doesn't mean that adds rigidity, but passing is more important Amirite?

MOT testers are wise to that sort of thing.

Must be a lot stricter. For state inspection my friend just riveted some aluminum and they passed it. It's not like you NEED rockers except to keep fumes out.

Yeah they can be quite strict, depends on the inspector really. I do know places that would probably pass it as is but I prefer to avoid them.
